Graf Zeppelin EPW038817

The Graf Zeppelin moored at Hanworth Aerodrome, London Air Park in July 1932. This was her third and final visit to the UK after a flight over London in 1930 and a 24-hour round-Britain passenger tour in August 1931. Once again she took a passenger tour around Britain in 24 hours before returning to Hanworth. Dr Hugo Eckener, the head of the Zeppelin passenger company, took personal charge of the Graf Zeppelin on several record breaking flights as well as using it as a public relations tool and an attraction drawing large crowds. EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, the majestic airship Graf Zeppelin graces Hanworth Aerodrome in London's Air Park during her third and final visit to the United Kingdom in July 1932. Previously, she had flown over London in 1930 and completed a 24-hour round-Britain passenger tour in August 1931. Once again, the Graf Zeppelin embarked on a 24-hour tour around the country before making her way back to Hanworth. The Graf Zeppelin, an engineering marvel of its time, was a rigid airship with an impressive length of 774.8 feet and a maximum capacity of carrying up to 24 passengers and 52 crew members. This colossal aerostat, with its distinctive streamlined shape and elegant design, was a sight to behold. Dr Hugo Eckener, the visionary head of the Zeppelin passenger company, personally oversaw several record-breaking flights aboard the Graf Zeppelin. He utilized the airship not only for its groundbreaking aviation achievements but also as a powerful public relations tool and an irresistible attraction, drawing massive crowds. This photograph, taken from an aerial perspective by Aerofilms, captures the Graf Zeppelin's grandeur as she sits serenely at Hanworth Aerodrome. The image offers a unique perspective of this iconic airship, which continues to captivate the imagination of aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
