EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the timeless beauty of Westminster Palace's Old St Stephens Cloister, located in the heart of London. Dating back to 1526-9, this medieval treasure was once part of the historic Palace of Westminster. As you gaze upon the image, your eyes are immediately drawn to the magnificent vaulted roof of the lower walk, adorned with intricate carvings and symbols that represent Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. The rich history embedded within these ancient walls is truly awe-inspiring. In 1836, visionary architect Charles Barry seamlessly integrated this architectural gem into the new Houses of Parliament, ensuring its preservation for generations to come. Today, it serves as a cloakroom within this iconic governmental institution. Photographed around 1900 by Howarth-Loomes Collection from Historic England Archive, this image encapsulates a moment frozen in time - a glimpse into both past and present. The grandeur and elegance exuded by every detail speak volumes about Britain's storied heritage. As you admire this remarkable interior shot captured through lens and preserved on paper, allow yourself to be transported back centuries ago when kings and queens walked these very halls. Let your imagination run wild as you envision political debates echoing off these ancient walls - a testament to power dynamics that have shaped our world today. This print is not just an artistic masterpiece; it is also a tangible connection to history itself – an invitation for all who behold it to appreciate and cherish our shared cultural legacy.
