Apollo Bunder, located in Bombay (now Mumbai), holds a rich history that spans across different eras. From witnessing the majestic Taj and Gateway of India being built in the 1930s to serving as a vantage point for a Muslim man marveling at the sunrise over Mumbai harbor, this iconic waterfront has seen it all. The Apollo Bunder was not only witness to architectural wonders but also played host to grand arrivals and receptions. On December 30, 1898, Lord and Lady Curzon graced its shores amidst great fanfare, leaving an indelible mark on Bombay's history. Similarly, Lord Dufferin's arrival was commemorated through an engraving capturing the reception held in his honor. Sirdars Mansions stood tall near Apollo Bunder, providing a glimpse into the city's opulent past with its black and white photograph. The mansion witnessed countless stories unfold within its walls. The New Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne, along with Lady Lansdowne received a warm welcome at Apollo Bunder as depicted by engravings from their reception. These images serve as testaments to the grandeur associated with this historical site. However, not all memories were joyous ones; Apollo Bunder experienced nature's fury when it faced the effects of a cyclone captured vividly in another engraving. This reminder of Mother Nature's power serves as a testament to both her beauty and unpredictability. In early 20th century Bombay (Mumbai), King George V and Queen Mary made their way ashore at Apollo Bunder during their visit for Delhi Durbar in 1911. A black-and-white photograph immortalizes this momentous occasion forever etched in history. Even Prince Albert Victor left his mark on Indian soil through an engraving depicting his time spent here during his visit to India. Today, although transformed by time and progress, Apollo Bunder still stands as a reminder of the city's rich heritage.
