Lodovico Cardi, also known as Cigoli, was a 16th-century Florentine artist whose works span various mediums and themes. From his contemporary drawing of Filippo Brunelleschi's design for the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence, to his depictions of the cardoon plant (Cynara cardunculus), and religious scenes like 'The Adoration of the Shepherds with Saint Catherine of Alexandria,' Cigoli's artistry showcases his versatility and mastery. Born the same year as Saint Francis of Assisi (1181 A), Cigoli may have been inspired by the simplicity and devotion of the saint's life, as seen in his painting of Saint Francis. A true Renaissance artist, Cigoli's works continue to captivate and inspire, leaving a lasting impact on art history.
