Charles Stewart Parnell, often referred to as "The Irish Frankenstein, " was a prominent figure in Irish politics during the late 19th century. Born in County Wicklow, Ireland, Parnell rose to become one of Ireland's greatest leaders and an influential advocate for Home Rule. In 1882, artist Joseph Swain depicted Parnell as "The Irish Frankenstein, " perhaps alluding to his ability to mobilize and unite the Irish people against British rule. This portrayal captures the power and influence that Parnell held over the masses. Parnell's legacy is immortalized in Dublin with his grave serving as a testament to his leadership. In 1896, a creator paid homage by capturing this significant site where Irelands greatest leader rests eternally. However, not everyone saw Parnell in such a positive light. Artist John Tenniel portrayed him as "The Irish Vampire" in 1885. This depiction suggests that some viewed him as draining resources from Ireland rather than fighting for its independence. Photographs taken between 1870 and 1880 show Charles Parnell of Dublin amidst his political career. The unknown creator captured moments of determination on his face, hinting at the challenges he faced while striving for Home Rule. One pivotal moment came with The Parnell Commission at the Royal Courts of Justice. Engravings depict intense cross-examinations of Captain O'Shea by Sir Unknown Creator; these proceedings aimed to discredit allegations made against Parnell regarding an affair with O'Shea's wife. A front cover illustration from The Graphic newspaper dated November 17th, 1888 showcases how this commission captivated public attention during that time period when it unfolded before their eyes. During these proceedings, Attorney-General delivered an opening speech highlighting the significance of this case while Mr. Biggar appeared for himself - both determined individuals seeking justice within this legal battle surrounding Charles Stewart Parnell.
