His marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen consort of France and later England, added both prestige and challenges to his reign. One pivotal event that marked Henry's rule was his penance at the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. This act showcased his remorse for the controversial murder of the Archbishop and demonstrated his desire for reconciliation with the Church.
