Her Majesty the Queen planting the "Prince Consort's Oak" in Windsor Great Park, 1862. Engraving from a photograph by Mr. Bambridge. 'On Tuesday, the 25th of November last, as our readers are aware, her Majesty planted an oak-tree to mark the spot in Windsor Great Park where the Prince Consort finished his last day's shooting, on the 23rd of November, 1861, just three weeks before his lamented decease. EDITORS COMMENTS
A poignant moment in history is captured in this stunning print, as Her Majesty Queen Victoria plants a majestic oak tree in Windsor Great Park on November 25th, 1862. The "Prince Consort's Oak" was planted to commemorate the final day of shooting for Prince Albert, her beloved husband who passed away just three weeks prior. Surrounded by family members and attendants, including Princess Alexandra and Louise, as well as dignitaries such as Major-General Seymour and Lieutenant-General Hood, Queen Victoria holds a spade in one hand while gazing out at the landscape with a sense of solemnity.
This engraving from an original photograph by Mr. Bambridge provides a rare glimpse into the private life of Britain's monarch during a time of great personal loss. The Prince Consort's Oak has become synonymous with the Queen's enduring love and devotion to her husband, as well as her commitment to preserving their shared memories in this beautiful parkland setting.
