St Kilda Pier, Victoria, Australia

St Kilda Pier early (foggy) winter morning. St Kilda Piers history dates back to 1853 when the St Kilda Pier and Jetty Company constructed a wooden jetty to assist the early settlers in unloading timber, building materials and firewood to St Kilda. Not long after its construction the small jetty fell victim to a stormy Port Phillip Bay and was washed away. Various forms of piers were constructed at St Kilda in the 1800s as the demand for a larger pier grew with the ever-increasing trade to and from the area. Since then the St Kilda Pier has grown to its present size, with the most recent concrete section constructed in the 1970 s

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the ethereal beauty of St Kilda Pier in Victoria, Australia on an early winter morning. As a thick blanket of fog envelops the scene, it adds an element of mystery and tranquility to this iconic landmark. The history of St Kilda Pier dates back to 1853 when it was initially constructed as a wooden jetty by the St Kilda Pier and Jetty Company. However, its existence was short-lived as it succumbed to the powerful forces of Port Phillip Bay during a storm. Over time, various forms of piers were built in response to the growing demand for trade in the area. Today, St Kilda Pier stands proudly at its present size after undergoing several expansions throughout the years. The most recent addition is a concrete section completed in the 1970s. This photograph perfectly showcases its grandeur against a clear sky and still waters. Mary Myla Andamon's skillful photography highlights not only the architectural beauty but also emphasizes nature's influence on this man-made structure. The absence of people further enhances the sense of solitude and serenity that can be experienced while standing on this pier. With its vertical composition and vibrant colors, this print serves as a stunning reminder of St Kilda Pier's historical significance and enduring charm. It is sure to captivate viewers with its unique blend of nostalgia and contemporary allure.
