EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the excitement of the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy race at the Silverstone Grand Prix Motor Circuit in Towcester, Northamptonshire, England, during October 2022. The forty-five minute race, which featured cars that preceded the British Touring Car Championship events, attracted a diverse grid of iconic machines from the 1958 to 1966 era. The race, which allowed for the option of a second driver but mandated a compulsory pit-stop, was divided into five classes: Coombs, Leston, Mann, Rhodes, and Sears. In this thrilling scene, we see Nick Leston (#3849) and his son Ollie Leston (#3850) in their Riley One-Point-Five cars, battling it out in the rain-soaked circuit. The Leston father-son duo, who were competing in the Pre 60 Touring Cars class, were no strangers to the adverse weather conditions, as they skillfully maneuvered their classic tin tops through the challenging course. The HRDC Jack Sears Trophy, a prestigious event organized by Historic Promotions, showcased a wide range of pre-66 machines, including BMC A Series Touring Cars, Historic Jaguar Touring Cars, Over 2 Litre Touring Cars, and Under 2 Litre Touring Cars. The panned shot in this photograph not only highlights the action on the track but also conveys the nostalgic atmosphere of motor racing's golden age. As the rain continued to fall, the drivers and their machines pushed themselves to the limit, providing an unforgettable entertainment experience for the motorsport enthusiasts in attendance. The Coombs, Leston, Mann, Rhodes, and Sears classes added an extra layer of competition, ensuring that every position on the grid was fiercely contested. This photograph is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic motor racing and the iconic cars that continue to captivate us today."
