The Netherlands Antilles was a Caribbean country consisting of two groups of islands in the Lesser Antilles, located in the southern Caribbean Sea. The two island groups were Aruba, Bonaire, CuraƧao and Sint Maarten. It was a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands until its dissolution in 2010. The islands had a total population of about 250,000 people and an area of 800 square kilometers. The economy relied heavily on tourism and offshore banking services. The official language was Dutch but English and Spanish were also widely spoken. After its dissolution in 2010, each island became an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands with their own governments and laws.
