EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Temple of Abou Simbel in Egypt, captured by the talented artist Robert Talbot Kelly between 1897 and 1934. The temple, built during the reign of Rameses II, stands as a testament to his dedication to the sun gods Amon-Re and Re-Horakhte. Rameses II's rule was marked by an impressive surge in temple construction. The existence of this grand temple remained unknown outside Egypt until 1813 when it was discovered by Giovanni Battista Belzoni, an Italian explorer with a passion for antiquities. This private collection print allows us to appreciate its awe-inspiring architecture and intricate sculptures. Situated on a cliff overlooking the river Nile, the Temple of Abou Simbel emanates power and spirituality. Its colossal statues guard its entrance, symbolizing both royalty and divinity. The sandstone structure is beautifully adorned with vibrant colors that have been preserved through time. As we gaze at this artwork, we are transported back in time to ancient Egypt's New Kingdom period. We can almost feel the presence of pharaohs who once ruled over this land while admiring their artistic achievements. Robert Talbot Kelly skillfully captures not only the physical features but also conveys a sense of reverence towards this sacred site through his art media choice - watercolor. This print serves as a reminder of Egypt's rich history and cultural heritage that continues to captivate people from all corners of the world today.
