Finsbury Park Cinema BL26833

Finsbury Park Cinema, 269 Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, Haringey, Greater London. The cinema theatre, looking towards the curtain and screen.
The original cinema building at 269 Seven Sisters Road opened as Pykes Cinematograph in 1909. The much larger Rink Cinema stood directly behind this building at 10 Stroud Green Road. In 1920 the two were combined under the name of the Finsbury Park Cinema (later reverting back to the Rink Cinema), with Pykes cinema becoming a grand foyer and the auditorium located in the original Rink building

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back in time to the grandeur of Finsbury Park Cinema. The image captures the essence of a bygone era, as we find ourselves peering into the heart of this historic cinema theatre. Looking towards the curtain and screen, one can almost feel the anticipation that must have filled this space during its heyday. The ornate details adorning the walls and ceiling speak to an era when going to the movies was not just about watching a film, but also about experiencing a sense of opulence and escapism. Originally opened as Pykes Cinematograph in 1909, this building on Seven Sisters Road underwent transformations over time. In 1920, it merged with the larger Rink Cinema located behind it on Stroud Green Road, becoming known as Finsbury Park Cinema before eventually reverting back to its original name. The photograph showcases Adolphe Augustus Boucher's keen eye for capturing architectural beauty. It allows us to appreciate both his technical skill and his ability to convey a sense of nostalgia through his lens. As we gaze at this remarkable piece of history frozen in time, we are reminded of how places like Finsbury Park Cinema hold memories that transcend generations. They serve as reminders of our collective cultural heritage and continue to inspire awe even today.
