EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite Victorian drawing room of Bidston Court, located in Birkenhead. Stepping into this grand space is like stepping back in time to the late 19th century. The photograph captures a stunning view towards the windows and fireplace, revealing the meticulous attention to detail that went into its design. Built in 1891 by renowned Liverpool architects Grayson & Ould, Bidston Court was a true architectural gem. The drawing room itself exudes elegance and sophistication with its Gothic windows, Tudor plasterwork, and Morris wallpaper and fabrics. Every element within this room has been carefully curated to create a harmonious blend of styles. The Georgian-style furniture adds an air of timeless beauty to the space, complementing the overall aesthetic perfectly. As one's gaze wanders upwards, they are greeted by a beautifully adorned ceiling that further enhances the opulence of this Victorian interior. It is worth noting that although Bidston Court met an unfortunate fate when it was demolished in 1931, it rose from its ashes as Hillbark in Roydon Park on Wirral's Merseyside. This historic photograph captured by H Bedford Lemere transports us back to July 1894 when Bidston Court stood proudly as a testament to Victorian craftsmanship and style. (Word count: 200)
