EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the majestic Old Wardour Castle in Wiltshire, England. Built during the late 14th century by John Lord Lovel, this medieval fortress has a rich and tumultuous history. Over time, it underwent renovations by the Arundell family after c. 1570, transforming it into an even more impressive structure. During the Civil War, Old Wardour Castle became a battleground as it witnessed intense fighting. Despite its turbulent past, this castle now stands as a romantic ruin that exudes an air of mystery and intrigue. Its picturesque charm caught the attention of filmmakers who chose to feature it in scenes from "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves". Nestled amidst breathtaking surroundings, Old Wardour Castle is not just any ordinary ruin; it seamlessly blends with the enchanting landscape of New Wardour House's 18th-century gardens. The juxtaposition between nature's beauty and man-made architecture creates a truly mesmerizing sight. James O. Davies expertly captures this timeless scene through his lens, allowing viewers to appreciate both the grandeur and vulnerability of this historical gem. This print serves as a reminder of our connection to the past and invites us to explore further into England's fascinating heritage.
