EDITORS COMMENTS

This print showcases a remarkable watercolour painting by the talented artist Elsie Matley Moore. The artwork beautifully captures a stained glass window dating back to the 14th century, found in St Mary's Church located in Credenhill, Herefordshire. The focal point of this stunning piece is the depiction of two significant figures from Christian history - St Thomas of Canterbury and St Thomas de Cantelupe. The delicate brushstrokes bring these medieval saints to life, as they are portrayed within the south-west window of the church's chancel. Elsie Matley Moore skillfully portrays every intricate detail of this ancient stained glass masterpiece, showcasing her deep appreciation for both art and religion. Her use of vibrant watercolours adds depth and richness to each figure, capturing their spiritual essence with great reverence. As we gaze upon this photograph, taken in August 1941 during a time when England was embroiled in World War II, we cannot help but feel a sense of awe and admiration for both the artistic talent on display and the historical significance it represents. This image serves as a poignant reminder that even amidst turmoil and uncertainty, beauty can still be found within our places of worship. Through Elsie Matley Moore's work, we are transported back in time to witness an exquisite moment frozen forever within this sacred space – where faith intertwines with artistry to create something truly extraordinary.
