This evocative reconstruction drawing by Peter Dunn of the Historic England Graphics Team transports us back to the turbulent medieval era and the siege of Dover Castle in 1216. The collapsed North Gate and East Tower stand as haunting reminders of the fierce battle that once raged around them. French forces, led by the future King Louis VIII, laid siege to the castle in an attempt to overthrow King John.
