EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the majestic Kenilworth Castle, located in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. The castle's rich history dates back to the Norman Conquest, with its first construction soon after this significant event. Standing tall and proud is the impressive keep, a testament to the castle's enduring legacy. Throughout centuries of change and turmoil, Kenilworth Castle has witnessed notable figures gracing its grounds. In the mid-13th century, Simon de Montfort held sway over this formidable fortification. Fast forward to the 17th century when it became home to Robert Dudley, Earl of Essex and a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I. It was during this period that many of the buildings we see today were erected. Photographed by Eric de Mare between 1945 and 1980, this image captures not only the architectural beauty but also echoes whispers from centuries past. The composition invites us to delve into history as we imagine knights defending these walls or envision lavish banquets hosted within its grand halls. Kenilworth Castle stands as an iconic symbol of strength and resilience throughout England's turbulent past. This print serves as a window into time itself – allowing us to appreciate both its historical significance and architectural splendor without mentioning any commercial use associated with it.
