EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the ancient grounds of Old Sarum, Wiltshire. With meticulous attention to detail, Peter Dunn from the English Heritage Graphics Team has reconstructed a vivid drawing depicting a Saxon man and woman during a Viking raid. The scene is filled with tension and uncertainty as these two individuals navigate through an era of conflict and upheaval. The Saxon man stands tall, his muscular frame hinting at the strength required for survival in such tumultuous times. Clad in traditional attire, he exudes resilience and determination while gripping tightly onto his weapon, ready to defend against any Viking incursion. Beside him stands a Saxon woman, her presence equally formidable. Dressed in intricately woven garments adorned with symbols of their culture, she embodies both grace and courage amidst chaos. Her eyes reflect unwavering resolve as she supports her fellow warrior. Through this artwork, we are transported into an era where Norse invaders threatened the very fabric of Saxon society. It serves as a reminder of the struggles faced by our ancestors who fought valiantly to protect their land and heritage. Peter Dunn's skillful graphic reconstruction brings history alive before our eyes; it allows us to appreciate the bravery exhibited by those who lived through such turbulent times. This print captures not only an artistic masterpiece but also preserves a significant chapter in England's rich historical tapestry for generations to come.
