Ipswich, Suffolk. A Cobbold & Co dray emerging from the yard of the Saracens Head. Brewers were often local firms and supplied public houses within a small radius. Drays were well adapted working vehicles, and two horses could pull ten or 12 barrels. Photographed by Hallam Ashley in September 1950

This print takes us back to the bustling streets of Ipswich, Suffolk in September 1950. The focal point is a magnificent Brewers dray, proudly emerging from the yard of the Saracens Head. A Cobbold & Co emblem adorns its side, symbolizing a local brewing firm that supplied numerous public houses within a small radius. The dray itself is an impressive sight to behold - a well-adapted working vehicle designed for transporting barrels of ale.
