EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of Hampton Court Palace, located in Richmond upon Thames, London. The palace is beautifully showcased from the driveway, revealing its remarkable Tudor architecture and regal presence. Originally belonging to the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem, the site was later acquired by Thomas Wolsey in 1513. Wolsey embarked on significant alterations to transform it into a magnificent residence. However, fate had other plans for Wolsey as he fell out of favor with King Henry VIII. Consequently, Henry VIII seized control of Hampton Court Palace and converted it into a royal abode fit for a king. This historic transformation left an indelible mark on the palace's history. The photographer behind this exquisite image is S W Rawlings who captured this timeless scene between 1945 and 1965. Through his lens, we are transported back in time to witness the splendor that once graced these hallowed halls. Hampton Court Palace stands today as a testament to England's rich heritage and serves as a reminder of its illustrious past. Its architectural beauty combined with its historical significance make it an iconic landmark cherished by locals and visitors alike.
