Baseball Ground, Derby: A Nostalgic Aerial Glimpse into Derby County Football Club's Historic Home (1894-1997) This evocative aerial photograph, taken in 1975, captures the essence of Baseball Ground, Derby – the hallowed turf that served as the home of Derby County Football Club (DCFC) for over a century, from 1894 until 1997. The image offers a unique bird's-eye perspective of the urban landscape, revealing the recreational heart of this English town. Baseball Ground, a name derived from the former use of the site as a cricket ground, is nestled amongst the urban fabric, surrounded by a sea of red-roofed houses and interspersed with lush green spaces. The football ground's distinctive features are clearly visible, including the Main Stand, the most prominent structure on the site. This iconic, two-tiered terrace, with its distinctive red and white striped roof, was a symbol of the passion and dedication of the Derby County supporters. The photograph also showcases the Pride Park End, the old floodlights, and the perimeter road encircling the pitch. As the home of Derby County, Baseball Ground bore witness to countless moments of triumph and despair, as the team rose through the ranks of English football, reaching the pinnacle of the First Division in 1972. The ground's history is a testament to the enduring spirit of the community and the power of sport to bring people together. Today, Baseball Ground stands as a cherished memory in the annals of English football history. This aerial photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the ground's rich past and the indelible mark it left on the city of Derby and its football club.
