EDITORS COMMENTS

This print captures a slice of history in the heart of Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire. The iconic Market House stands proudly in Market Square, its elegant Georgian architecture commanding attention. As if frozen in time, a horse-drawn cart laden with bales passes by, showcasing the vital role of agriculture and horse-drawn transport during this era. The scene is alive with activity as people go about their work amidst the bustling rural life. It offers a glimpse into a bygone era when farming played an integral part in shaping communities like Princes Risborough. The photograph beautifully encapsulates the essence of hard work and dedication that defined these times. Notably, The Gables on Market Square can also be seen in this image. Its timber-framed front adds to the charm and character of the surroundings. Although later rebuilt in brick around 1950, this photograph immortalizes its original form for generations to appreciate. Katherine MacFee's skillful lens has captured not just buildings but also stories from our past—stories that remind us of our roots and how far we have come. This print serves as a poignant reminder of the rich heritage embedded within every corner of England's towns and villages, inviting viewers to step back in time and experience rural life at its finest.
