The vast nave, which towered over 100 feet high and stretched approximately three-quarters of a mile long, is depicted in this breathtaking image. The photograph is believed to have been taken between 1854 and 1866 by the renowned Victorian photographer, Philip Henry Delamotte. Delamotte, known for his meticulous attention to detail, captured the essence of this architectural marvel in this hand-coloured print. The ironwork arches, which supported the glass roof, are intricately detailed, showcasing the engineering prowess of the time.
