The new brewery for Harp Lager at Manor Park was built by Laing with the design of the project being carried out by architects and engineers from the Group Technical Services, working with engineers from Arthur Guinness, Son and Company Limited. John Laing Construction Ltd began the building work in 1961 and the brewery was opened on 28th June 1963. The brewery was taken over by Bass in 1979, then later by Molson Coors, subsequently closing in 2015

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of brewing at the Harp Lager Brewery in Manor Park, Alton. The image showcases the fermenting floor, located at the top of the fermentation storage block, where open vessels brim with a bubbling brew. A diligent brewer can be seen attentively checking its gravity, ensuring that every drop meets perfection. Constructed by Laing and designed by architects and engineers from Group Technical Services in collaboration with Arthur Guinness, Son and Company Limited, this new brewery was a testament to innovation and craftsmanship. Building work commenced in 1961, culminating in its grand opening on June 28th, 1963. The Harp Lager Brewery quickly became renowned for its exceptional lagers as it thrived under various ownerships throughout the years. Bass took over in 1979 before Molson Coors assumed control later on. Unfortunately, despite its rich history and success within the industry, the brewery ceased operations in 2015. This photograph not only immortalizes an era when people dedicated themselves to their craft but also serves as a reminder of how beer has long been intertwined with British culture. From bustling workers to towering vats filled with potential refreshment, this snapshot encapsulates both hard work and enjoyment - elements that have made brewing such an integral part of our social fabric for centuries.
