Harp Lager Brewery, Draymans Way, Manor Park, Alton, East Hampshire, Hampshire. A man working in a laboratory containing pressure gauges at Harp Lager Brewery.
The new brewery for Harp Lager at Manor Park was built by Laing with the design of the project being carried out by architects and engineers from the Group Technical Services, working with engineers from Arthur Guinness, Son and Company Limited. John Laing Construction Ltd began the building work in 1961 and the brewery was opened in 1963. The brewery was taken over by Bass in 1979, then later by Molson Coors, subsequently closing in 2015. EDITORS COMMENTS

This print captures a moment in time at the Harp Lager Brewery in Manor Park, Alton, East Hampshire. In this image, we see a dedicated man engrossed in his work within the brewery's laboratory. Surrounded by an array of pressure gauges, he is diligently carrying out his scientific duties. The construction of this state-of-the-art brewery was undertaken by John Laing Construction Ltd and completed in 1963. The architects and engineers from Group Technical Services collaborated with Arthur Guinness, Son and Company Limited to design this magnificent facility. It quickly became a symbol of innovation and excellence within the brewing industry. Over the years, Harp Lager Brewery underwent several ownership changes - first acquired by Bass in 1979 before eventually falling under the umbrella of Molson Coors. Sadly, its doors closed for good in 2015. This photograph not only showcases the technological advancements prevalent during the 1960s but also pays homage to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create one of England's most renowned breweries. It serves as a reminder that science and technology have always played integral roles in shaping our world. As part of Historic England's archive collection, this picture offers us a glimpse into both past achievements and present nostalgia while honoring those whose dedication contributed to making Harp Lager Brewery an icon within its industry.
