After undergoing extensive refurbishment work, the factory is now a hub of manufacturing excellence. The image showcases a view of vehicles being meticulously crafted by skilled workers, highlighting the dedication and precision that goes into each Land Rover vehicle. The refurbishment project was undertaken by Laing Midlands Region team, who began their work in December 1981. Their task involved transforming two factory blocks and installing various new facilities such as inspection areas, rolling roads, rectification areas for paint, and even a waxing area. To accommodate large plant machinery and ensure smooth operations between buildings, entrances were enlarged while roof steelwork was strengthened. A bailey bridge was also constructed to seamlessly connect the two structures. This snapshot from the 1980s not only provides insight into Land Rover's manufacturing process but also serves as a testament to British engineering prowess during that era. The attention to detail evident in this photograph reflects Land Rover's commitment to producing high-quality vehicles renowned for their durability and off-road capabilities. Preserved within Historic England Archive's collection, this image offers viewers an opportunity to appreciate both the historical significance of Land Rover Factory in Solihull and the craftsmanship behind one of Britain's most iconic automotive brands.
