It has also been used by the Sheffield Eagles Rugby League team between 1991-2009, and currently hosts Rotherham United Football Club while their new stadium is being built. This aerial view captures the grandeur of Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. Completed in 1990, this magnificent athletics stadium was purpose-built to host the prestigious World Student Games of 1991. Standing tall and proud, it has become a symbol of sporting excellence in the city. Home to the esteemed City of Sheffield Athletics Club, this iconic venue has witnessed countless moments of triumph and athletic prowess throughout its history. But its significance extends beyond track and field events. From 1991 to 2009, it served as the home ground for the Sheffield Eagles Rugby League team, adding an extra layer of excitement to its already impressive resume. In July 2007 when this photograph was taken by Jane Stone, Don Valley Stadium had temporarily opened its doors to Rotherham United Football Club while their new stadium was under construction.
