Neptune Energy Park, Neptune Historic Dry Dock, Shepherd Offshore Ltd, Fisher Street, Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyneside. Began 1860 when John Wigham Richardson set up a small ship yard employing 200 people. Image shows the 60m high Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Wind Farm gravity based foundations under construction before being floated out into the River Tyne at high tide and out to sea. It will be the first offshore wind project to use a 66kV rated inter array to connect turbines to a new onshore sub station at Blyth. View from north from rooftop of Segedunum Visitors Centre. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Neptune Energy Park Walker DP174618, located in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne's historic dry dock. Dating back to 1860 when John Wigham Richardson established a small shipyard employing 200 individuals, this site has witnessed remarkable transformations over the years. The image showcases the awe-inspiring construction process of the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Wind Farm gravity-based foundations. Standing tall at an impressive height of 60 meters, these foundations were meticulously crafted before being gently floated out into the River Tyne during high tide and eventually transported to their designated spot in the vast sea. Notably, this wind project will pioneer a groundbreaking approach by utilizing a cutting-edge 66kV rated inter-array system to connect turbines with an onshore substation at Blyth. Taken from atop Segedunum Visitors Centre, facing northwards, this photograph offers a breathtaking view that encapsulates both old and new elements within Tyneside's landscape. From ancient fortifications and shipyards to modern engineering marvels and scientific advancements, it beautifully portrays the harmonious coexistence between tradition and progress. Furthermore, this image symbolizes more than just technological achievements; it represents a significant milestone in sustainable energy production. With its focus on green energy generation and urban regeneration efforts, Neptune Energy Park serves as a beacon for environmental consciousness and forward-thinking initiatives. Alun Bull masterfully captured this momentous scene in June 2017—an exquisite testament to human ingenuity blending
