Artefact Religion Roman

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable Roman artefact known as "Three genii DP143592" found at Housesteads Fort, along Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. The relief depicts three agenii cucullatia, or hooded deities, discovered within a domestic shrine located outside the fort. The image transports us back in time to ancient Britain when these mysterious figures were worshipped and revered by Roman settlers. Wrapped tightly against the harsh northern winds, these enigmatic beings are adorned with thick woollen capes that were actually exported from Britain itself. The intricate details of this artefact serve as a testament to the craftsmanship and religious beliefs of its creators. Each deity is meticulously carved with their hoods pulled up over their heads, adding an air of secrecy and mystique to their presence. Their expressions seem serene yet powerful, hinting at the reverence they commanded among those who sought their favor. Alun Bull's expert photography captures not only the physical beauty of this historical find but also evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity about the lives and faiths of those who once called Housesteads Fort home. This print serves as a window into a distant past where religion played an integral role in everyday life, offering viewers an opportunity to connect with history on both an intellectual and emotional level.
