EDITORS COMMENTS
Aloft in the sky, the photograph captures a nostalgic view of Ayresome Park, a historic football ground in Middlesbrough, England. Taken in 1992, the aerial image showcases the urban landscape of the recreational area, now a symbol of football history. At the time, Middlesbrough Football Club called this ground their home, having recently secured promotion to the Premier League. However, their tenure in the top-tier league was short-lived, and they were relegated at the end of the 1992-93 season. The image reveals the intricate layout of the terraces, the athletic field, and the surrounding structures, all bathed in the soft glow of the sun. Ayresome Park, with its rich history, played host to Group 4 matches during the 1966 FIFA World Cup, further cementing its place in football folklore. The Teessiders' former abode now stands as a poignant reminder of the past, as Middlesbrough Football Club moved to their new Riverside Stadium in 1995. The photograph, taken by Aerofilms, offers a unique perspective of the urban landscape, allowing us to appreciate the intricacies of the lost football ground. This aerial view serves as a testament to the enduring allure of football and the memories it evokes, making it an essential addition to any collection of historical football imagery.
