EDITORS COMMENTS
This aerial photograph captures the impressive construction of the iconic Mersey Gateway Bridge, located in Halton, Cheshire. The bridge stands tall and proud as it stretches across both the mighty River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, connecting the towns of Runcorn and Widnes. Taken in June 2017 during its construction phase, this image showcases the intricate engineering marvel that went into building this toll bridge. The photo highlights the immense scale of this project, with cranes towering over the site and workers diligently carrying out their tasks. It is a testament to human ingenuity and determination to witness such an ambitious structure taking shape amidst a picturesque landscape. Four months after this snapshot was taken, in October 2017, traffic began flowing smoothly across this magnificent bridge. Its significance was further emphasized when it was officially inaugurated by none other than Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II herself alongside the Duchess of Sussex in June 2018. Damian Grady's skillful photography perfectly encapsulates not only the physical beauty of this architectural masterpiece but also its historical importance as a symbol of connectivity between communities on either side of these waterways. This print serves as a timeless reminder of human achievement and progress in civil engineering while showcasing our ability to overcome geographical barriers for greater societal development.
