EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "A Timeless Gathering Place: Pittville Park's Pump Room and Bandstand" Nestled in the heart of Pittville Park in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, lies the historic Pittville Pump Room. Captured in this photograph taken by John Gay in 1971, the west face of the Pump Room stands proudly, an iconic landmark of the north-east part of this beautiful public park. The Pittville Pump Room, a Grade II listed building, was originally designed to provide spa water to visitors seeking health and relaxation in the 19th century. Its classical architecture, with Doric columns and a grand portico, exudes an air of elegance and refinement. To the right of the Pump Room, a quaint wooden bandstand catches the eye. Built in the 1940s, this charming structure has been a cherished part of Pittville Park for generations. After falling into disrepair, it was lovingly restored in 1995, allowing it to continue serving as a venue for live music and community gatherings. The bandstand, much like the Pump Room, has become a symbol of the park's rich history and its commitment to providing leisure and enjoyment for the public. The serene atmosphere of Pittville Park, with its picturesque lake, lush greenery, and the soothing sound of water from the Pump Room, invites visitors to unwind, connect with nature, and create lasting memories. This photograph, taken over five decades ago, beautifully encapsulates the enduring charm and allure of Pittville Park and its iconic structures, the Pump Room and the bandstand. It serves as a testament to the park's ability to captivate the hearts and minds of generations, making it an essential part of Cheltenham's cultural heritage.
