Royal Scot Hotel, Kings Cross Road, Islington, Greater London. The Royal Scots Regiment pipe and drum band marching on Kings Cross Road outside the Royal Scot Hotel to mark its official opening.
Construction of the seven-storey Royal Scot Hotel at Percy Circus began in 1970. The topping out ceremony was held on 23rd March 1972 and the hotel was officially opened on 14th November 1972. It took its name from the Royal Scots Regiment, the pipe and drum band of which marched past the hotel as part of the opening ceremony. When it opened, the hotel had just fewer than 350 bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, as well as a restaurant, coffee shop, cocktail bar and lounge bar, a functions suite, and car park

1970s Celebration Ceremony Hotel Music People Bagpipes Marching Band

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a momentous occasion in the heart of Islington, Greater London. The image showcases the Royal Scots Regiment pipe and drum band marching proudly on Kings Cross Road outside the newly opened Royal Scot Hotel. The construction of this magnificent seven-storey hotel began in 1970 at Percy Circus, and after two years of hard work, it was ready to be unveiled to the world. On 14th November 1972, with great fanfare and celebration, the hotel officially opened its doors to guests. Named after the esteemed Royal Scots Regiment, renowned for their musical prowess, it was only fitting that their pipe and drum band led the way during this momentous event. As they marched past the hotel with their bagpipes playing regimental music, they added an air of grandeur and tradition to mark this special occasion. With just under 350 bedrooms equipped with private bathrooms, along with various dining options such as a restaurant, coffee shop, cocktail bar and lounge bar - not forgetting a functions suite and car park - this hotel promised luxury accommodation coupled with top-notch amenities. This remarkable photograph is a testament to both architectural achievement and military pride intertwined harmoniously within one frame. It encapsulates history in motion; an everlasting reminder of a significant milestone for both Islington's landscape and its people.
