In 1947, after a seven year break, Laing had resurrected their Area Outings for staff and their families, with trips taking place in May and June. In 1954, there were seven outings planned to take place over five weeks in May and June. This trip was for staff and their families from North Wales and North West England

Brief details of this staff outing appear in the June 1953 edition of Laing's monthly newsletter; Team Spirit. The London staff involved in the outing came from Head Office, the Plant and Transport Depot, London contracts and Coryton. The newsletter states that they travelled on three special trains on which breakfast and dinner was served
