1960s Laing Spirit Lighting Model People Photographer Work Sitter

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment in the bustling studio of the newly opened Sports Club centre at John Laing and Son Limited's offices in Mill Hill, Greater London. The year is 1966, and photographer John Laing himself is seen meticulously framing his shot while a stunning model poses gracefully before him. The Laing Sports Club had quickly gained popularity, boasting an impressive membership of 2,500 across the country. The new Sports Club wing offers a plethora of amenities spread over two floors. In this particular frame, we catch a glimpse of the photographic studio adorned with vibrant posters promoting The Laing Sports Club's Photography Section Tenth Annual Exhibition. Studio lights illuminate the space as they cast soft shadows on both photographer and sitter. The atmosphere exudes creativity and camaraderie as individuals work together to capture moments frozen in time. This image embodies the spirit of collaboration that thrived within John Laing's company culture during this era. As we peer into this snapshot from history, it becomes evident that beyond construction projects, John Laing valued recreational pursuits for its employees too. With billiards rooms, club rooms, sports shops, offices, coffee lounges, table tennis halls, and TV lounges all under one roof - it was truly a hub for relaxation and leisure activities after long days at work. This photograph serves as a testament to not only John Laing's commitment to excellence but also their dedication to fostering an environment where employees could thrive both professionally and personally.
