EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back in time to the bustling kitchens of Minley Manor, a French chateau style country house nestled in the enchanting Hampshire countryside. Taken by renowned photographer Henry Bedford Lemere in 1903, this image captures the essence of Edwardian era culinary craftsmanship. In this snapshot, we witness a harmonious blend of men and women diligently working together to create gastronomic delights for the manor's esteemed guests. The kitchen staff, dressed impeccably in their traditional uniforms, exude an air of professionalism as they navigate through pots and pans with utmost precision. The architectural brilliance of Minley Manor is evident even within these walls. Designed by acclaimed architect Henry Clutton between 1858-60, every nook and cranny reflects his meticulous attention to detail. This particular photograph was commissioned by owner Laurence Currie to showcase enhancements made by architect Arthur Castings in 1898. As we gaze upon this historic scene, one can almost smell the tantalizing aromas wafting from simmering pots on cast iron stoves. It serves as a poignant reminder of a time when cooking was an art form that required skillful hands and unwavering dedication. Minley Manor's kitchens stand not only as testament to its grandeur but also as a tribute to those unsung heroes who tirelessly worked behind-the-scenes to ensure that each meal served at this magnificent country house was nothing short of perfection.
