Known as the "Wizard Earl," Angus rose to prominence following his marriage to Margaret Tudor, sister of King Henry VIII, in 1503. Their union, which was arranged to strengthen diplomatic ties between Scotland and England, set the stage for a lifetime of complicated political intrigue and in-fighting. Born into the powerful Douglas clan, Angus was a skilled diplomat and military leader. However, his marriage to Margaret Tudor, who was also the widow of King James IV of Scotland, sparked controversy and resistance from various factions within both countries.
