EDITORS COMMENTS
Navin Field, also known as Briggs Stadium, was a historic baseball venue located in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Home to the Detroit Tigers from 1912 to 1931, this iconic ballpark held a special place in the hearts of baseball fans across the country. The photograph, believed to have been taken in the 1920s, captures the essence of a bygone era in American sports history. The image shows a bustling scene at Navin Field, with the grandstands filled to capacity and spectators standing eagerly along the outfield fence. The stands, adorned with the distinctive red and white stripes, stretch towards the horizon, creating a sense of vastness and excitement. Trumbull Avenue, located just beyond the right field fence, is visible in the distance, adding to the urban setting of the ballpark. The Detroit Tigers, a founding member of the American League in 1901, enjoyed great success during their tenure at Navin Field. The team won the World Series in 1908, 1935, and 1945, with many legendary players gracing the field, including Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, and Al Kaline. The 1920s and 1930s were a golden age for baseball in America, and Navin Field was at the heart of it all in Detroit. This photograph is a testament to the passion and dedication of the fans who filled the stands, eager to witness history being made on the diamond.
