Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Venezuela

Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Venezuela. These cards enabled collectors to see stamps which they were unable to obtain, or afford. There is a complete set of 180 cards, some of the smaller countries had a very low printing run and are hence very rare. Used Zeiher cards are very hard to find as the embossed stamp design was not approved by postal authorities as it confused the function of the proper stamps! Date: circa 1906

EDITORS COMMENTS
Discover the captivating world of Ottmar Zeihar's Stamp Cards from Venezuela, a unique and intriguing philatelic creation from the early 1900s. These remarkable pieces, produced by the German publisher Ottmar Zeihar, offered collectors a chance to admire stamps from various countries, even those that were hard to obtain or beyond their financial reach. The Stamp Cards feature a total of 180 individual cards, some representing smaller countries with limited print runs, making them highly prized and rare collectibles today. One such country is Venezuela, whose stunning collection is showcased in this image. The cards were designed as a montage of various stamps from the featured country, often including their crests, coats of arms, or other distinctive elements. The intricate embossed stamp design on each card, however, was not approved by postal authorities due to the potential confusion with actual postage stamps. As a result, used Zeihar cards are exceptionally rare and challenging to find. This photograph offers a glimpse into the rich and diverse philatelic history of the early 1900s, featuring an unusual yet captivating selection of regional stamps from Venezuela. The cards serve as a testament to the passion and dedication of collectors, who sought to expand their collections beyond the borders of their own countries. Whether you're an experienced philatelist or simply intrigued by the history of stamps and postal systems, these Stamp Cards provide a fascinating window into the world of philately from a bygone era.
