In this photograph, taken by renowned explorer and photographer Frank Hurley during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-17), led by Sir Ernest Shackleton, Tom Crean, an Irish seaman and veteran of several Antarctic expeditions, cradles four adorable puppies in his arms.
