In a testament to their dedication and skill, this remarkable team from Shrewsbury took home the coveted 'Florence M Lean' Challenge Cup at an all-female ambulance competition. The photograph captures the triumphant moment when these talented women were awarded their prize - a beautiful pewter tea service. As reported in the May 1938 edition of the GWR Magazine, this team impressed judges with their exceptional efficiency, neatness, and quietness during the challenging event. Their achievement is all the more remarkable considering they had to navigate complex scenarios while providing first aid under pressure. This historic print from STEAM Museum of the GWR offers a fascinating glimpse into an era when women were making significant strides in traditionally male-dominated fields like emergency services. The image not only celebrates their victory but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication to public service.
