EDITORS COMMENTS
In this aerial photograph, Elm Park in Reading, once the proud home of Reading Football Club, comes into view. Taken in 1992, this image offers a glimpse into the past, before the team moved to their current stadium, Madejski Stadium, in 1998. At the time, Reading Football Club was under new ownership. John Madejski had purchased the club in 1991, and under the management of Mark McGhee, the team was starting to make significant progress. The Royals were on their way to a successful era, but this photograph captures a moment in history when they still called Elm Park their home. Elm Park, located in the heart of Reading, was a beloved recreational and leisure destination for football fans. The stadium, with its distinctive layout and lush green surroundings, was a source of pride for the local community. The photograph reveals the intricate details of the stadium, including the terraces, the pitch, and the surrounding structures. As we look at this image, it's hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia for the lost football grounds that have shaped the history of the sport. Elm Park may no longer be the home of Reading Football Club, but it remains an essential part of the team's rich heritage. This aerial view offers a unique perspective on a time when football was a simpler pleasure, and the thrill of the game was the only thing that mattered. The Aerofilms Collection, from which this photograph is taken, is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Reading and its football club. This image, in particular, provides a fascinating insight into the past and serves as a reminder of the enduring passion for the beautiful game.
