Laing Sports Ground, Rowley Lane, Elstree, Barnet, Greater London. The Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Precision Team giving a display of formation riding during a Gala Day held at the Laing Sports Ground at Elstree.
A Gala Day was held by Laing at the Laing Sports Ground on 14th June 1969, as a replacement of the annual Sports Day. Sports events were held by the Sports Club, which included hockey, tennis, bowls, and football tournaments. A traditional English fete programme featured coconut shies, bingo, pony rides, catering and a beer tent, candy floss, and roundabouts. The day ended with a beauty contest, prize draw, and the election of Miss Sports Club. In the evening there was a firework display and a gala dance which continued until midnight

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment of precision and skill as the Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Precision Team showcases their formation riding during a Gala Day at the Laing Sports Ground in Elstree, Greater London. The year was 1969, and this event served as a substitute for the annual Sports Day organized by Laing. The festivities of the day were abundant, with various sports events taking place including hockey, tennis, bowls, and football tournaments. Attendees were treated to classic English fete activities such as coconut shies, bingo games, pony rides, and even indulged in delicious treats like candy floss. The atmosphere was filled with joyous laughter as people enjoyed themselves on roundabouts and relished in the spirit of celebration. As dusk settled over the grounds, anticipation grew for the evening's highlights. A beauty contest took center stage alongside an exciting prize draw while Miss Sports Club was crowned amidst cheers from spectators. To conclude this memorable occasion on a high note, a spectacular firework display illuminated the night sky before everyone danced away until midnight at the gala dance.
