EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from the early 1900s, we are transported back in time to witness a scene of sheer determination and camaraderie. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Porthgwarra, Cornwall, three hardy men and their faithful dog can be seen utilizing the ancient capstan to haul boats up the treacherously steep slipway. With muscles straining under their weathered skin, these resilient fishermen epitomize the indomitable spirit of Cornish industry. Their unwavering commitment to their craft is evident as they work together seamlessly, harnessing every ounce of strength within them to conquer nature's challenges. As our gaze shifts towards the boats being hauled ashore, one particular vessel catches our attention - PZ223. A symbol of maritime heritage and local pride, it stands tall amidst its counterparts. The photographer's identity may remain unknown, but through this snapshot frozen in time, they have immortalized an era defined by resilience and resourcefulness. The presence of a loyal canine companion adds an endearing touch to this historic tableau. Undoubtedly serving as both mascot and friend during long days at sea, this faithful four-legged companion embodies the unbreakable bond between man and animal that has endured throughout generations. This evocative image serves as a poignant reminder of Cornwall's rich fishing legacy; a testament to those who braved tempestuous waters day after day in pursuit of sustenance for their communities. It encapsulates not only a moment
