This evocative reconstruction drawing by Peter Dunn of Historic England transports us back to the fateful Battle of Hastings in 1066. The scene unfolds at Battle Abbey in East Sussex, where the English army, led by King Harold Godwinson, faces the advancing Norman forces under the command of William, the Duke of Normandy and future King William I. The English soldiers, clad in saxon armor and wielding shields and various weapons, gaze intently towards their adversaries.
