Clark Fay, Austin 7 Thatched Saloon, DV 9828, Austin 7 s, Centenary Celebration, first introduced in July 1922 the Austin 7, it was promoted as an affordable family car, the designation 7 being the official horsepower of the engine allowing it to be in a low tax category. This was the official hp using the pervading Horsepower tax method of calculation of the time. However by clever engineering within a few years the actual power from its 747cc (45.6 cu in) the four cylinders was approaching a heady 10.5hp.
