EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the excitement of the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy race at the Silverstone Grand Prix Motor Circuit in October 2022. The forty-five minute endurance event, held in Towcester, Northamptonshire, England, showcases a grid of iconic pre-60 and pre-66 touring cars. Among the grid, we find CJ12 3809 Ding Boston, driven by the talented Riley One-Point-Five OUMF team. The weather conditions were far from ideal, with rain and spray making the race challenging for the drivers. The race featured the Coombs, Leston, Mann, Rhodes, and Sears classes, each representing different categories of touring cars from the era. The Coombs class featured pre-60 touring cars, while the Leston, Mann, Rhodes, and Sears classes represented pre-66 BMC A Series Touring Cars, Pre-66 Historic Jaguar Touring Cars, Pre-66 Over 2 Litre Touring Cars, and Pre-66 Under 2 Litre Touring Cars, respectively. Despite the adverse weather, the race was filled with entertainment as the drivers battled it out on the track. The option of a second driver and a compulsory pit-stop added an extra layer of strategy to the race. The Riley One-Point-Five OUMF team put in a strong performance, showcasing their skill and determination. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of motor racing and the nostalgia that comes with it. The classic cars on display are a reminder of the motor sport legends that have come before us, and the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy is a celebration of their legacy. This image, taken by Chris McEvoy of CJM Photography, captures the essence of a bygone era and the thrill of motor racing.
