EDITORS COMMENTS

In this photograph from the Historic Racing Drivers Club (HRDC) Jack Sears Trophy for 1958-1966 Touring Cars event at Silverstone Grand Prix Motor Circuit in Towcester, Northamptonshire, England, October 2022, we find Mike Gardiner and Josh Cook skillfully maneuvering their Lotus Ford Cortina Mk1 through the challenging conditions of a forty-five minute race. The HRDC Jack Sears Trophy is a popular historic racing event, featuring iconic pre-60 Touring Cars, Pre-66 BMC A Series Touring Cars, Pre-66 Historic Jaguar Touring Cars, Pre-66 Over 2 Litre Touring Cars, and Pre-66 Under 2 Litre Touring Cars. The adverse weather conditions add an extra layer of excitement to the race, as the drivers navigate the wet and slippery track. The race includes the option of a second driver, but a compulsory pit-stop adds an element of strategy to the competition. The results are divided into five classes, named after legendary racing figures Coombs, Leston, Mann, Rhodes, and Sears, who preceded the British Touring Car Championship events. In this image, Mike Gardiner and Josh Cook are seen in their Lotus Ford Cortina Mk1, battling against the elements and their competitors. The Cortina, a classic tin top and a favorite among motorsport enthusiasts, is a testament to the rich history of saloon car racing. The rain-soaked circuit and the retro atmosphere of the event add to the nostalgic charm of the scene, making for an entertaining day of motor racing. This photograph, taken by Chris McEvoy of CJM Photography, captures the essence of motor racing legends at the Motor Racing Legends Silverstone GP 22nd-23rd October 2022. The image is a reminder of the enduring appeal of classic racing cars and the thrill of competition that continues to draw enthusiasts to the sport.
