EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning stained glass window from the Obazine Abbey in Aubazine, France. Dating back to the 12th century, this intricate piece of art is a testament to the rich history and architectural beauty of the Cistercian monastery. Despite facing confiscation during the French Revolution, the structure of the abbey church miraculously survived and has been restored to its former glory. Today, it serves as a parish church for Aubazines, preserving its spiritual significance. Interestingly, this particular stained glass window holds an unexpected connection to fashion icon Coco Chanel. The intertwining letters "C" on the abbey's stained-glass windows inspired her iconic logo. It is said that when she was just 12 years old, Coco Chanel found herself at Aubazine Abbey's orphanage in Correze. The image captures not only the exquisite craftsmanship of medieval stained glass but also represents an intriguing link between historical architecture and modern design. Its vibrant colors and delicate details transport viewers back in time while reminding us of how inspiration can be found in unexpected places. This print by Bridgeman Images allows us to appreciate both the artistic mastery behind these ancient windows and their lasting impact on contemporary culture.
