A three-quarter-length portrait to right in a grey silk coat, a silver-laced yellow silk waistcoat and a grey bag wig. The Cornwall, 80 guns, with the flag of a vice-admiral of the white, is in the right background. The portrait was painted after June and probably before November 1744, when Chadwick sailed as flag-captain to Vice-Admiral Davers in the Cornwall with a squadron to the West Indies. On the death of Davers, Rear-Admiral Knowles took his place and, in March 1748, the Cornwall took the principal part in the reduction of the French-occupied fort at Port Louis, Guadalope. Chadwick died in June following, while still in the Cornwall'.); © National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning portrait print captures the distinguished figure of Captain Richard Chadwick, painted in 1744 by the talented artist Thomas Hudson. Clad in a grey silk coat and a silver-laced yellow silk waistcoat, Chadwick exudes an air of authority and elegance as he gazes confidently towards the viewer. The background features the impressive 'Cornwall', an 80-gun ship with the flag of a vice-admiral of the white, symbolizing Chadwick's esteemed position within the naval hierarchy.
The painting was created during a significant period in Chadwick's career, just before his departure to the West Indies as flag-captain to Vice-Admiral Davers aboard the 'Cornwall'. Tragically, Chadwick met his end in June 1748 while still serving on board this formidable vessel. His legacy lives on through this striking portrait, which serves as a poignant reminder of his dedication to duty and service to his country.
Through intricate details and vibrant colors, this artwork encapsulates not only Chadwick's physical appearance but also his spirit and character. It stands as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of those who served in Britain's maritime forces during the tumultuous times of the 18th century.
